Asia

If Africa is the cradle of civilization, then Asia must be considered the birthplace of the agricultural products that would eventually feed the world. It is believed that systematic agriculture was born during the 10th millennium BC in Southwest Asia. During that time, people in Syria and Iraq domesticated the eight so-called “founder crops” (flax, three cereal grains, and four pulses, including lentils and chickpeas). Among the world’s first domesticated crops, these advancements formed the foundation of systematic agriculture that was adopted throughout Asia, North Africa, and eventually, Europe. Rice cultivation began in Asia’s Far East as early as 10,000 BC. Today, rice provides about one-fifth of all calories consumed by humans, with most of the world’s supply still grown in Asia.

Waffles I

Reviewed on Aug. 19, 2008 by ZAKIAH
Very good and easy. I find beating the eggs until fluffy being the trick to making these waffles nice and crispy.Less hassle than beating the egg whites separately and these waffles came out just the way I wanted them. Will use this recipe from now on. Thanks! :)

Sauerkraut Filling for Pierogi

Reviewed on Aug. 19, 2008 by JOSEPHINE
These were AWESOME!!! I love sauerkraut and just had to try these. 1/4 of the pierogis I boiled then fried and 1/4 of them I just fried. Hubby liked the boiled one but I liked just fried. I used a sour cream, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and dill weed dipping sauce.
